From Ancient Monastery to Modern Mission: The Story of Emmanuel House

Emmanuel House of Providence is a Catholic centre for prayer and evangelisation, currently a new community of Christ’s faithful in formation in Clonfert, Ireland. It was founded in 1985 by Michael and Annette Cullen, who were led to establish a Spirit-filled centre after years of sharing the faith in Ireland and the United States.

Clonfert, meaning “field of miracles,” is the site of the 6th-century monastery of St. Brendan the Navigator, a renowned missionary and founder of a great centre of learning that once had over 3,000 students. Today, its 12th-century Cathedral remains a witness to this Christian heritage.

Emmanuel House operates under the authority of Bishop Michael Duignan and includes an oratory, meeting hall, confessionals, shrine, and residential facilities. In 1990, Eddie and Lucy Stones took responsibility for the centre. Their vision is that Emmanuel House would be a spiritual hospital, where people encounter God’s mercy, healing, and grace in their lives.
