Christian prayer animated by the holy spirit

All Christian prayer is animated by the Holy Spirit, expressed as supplication—petition and intercession—or appreciation—thanksgiving, praise, and adoration. Both forms recognize dependence on God and trust in His providence, reaching their highest expression in the Eucharist, the ultimate act of thanksgiving (CCC 2639).
