Christian prayer animated by the holy spirit
All Christian prayer is animated by the Holy Spirit, expressed as supplication—petition and intercession—or appreciation—thanksgiving, praise, and adoration. Both forms recognize dependence on God and trust in His providence, reaching their highest expression in the Eucharist, the ultimate act of thanksgiving (CCC 2639).
Catechism: Jesus in prayer, a window into his heart
Title: Jesus at Prayer: A Window into His Heart
When Jesus went off alone to pray, he was resting in a deep, loving relationship with God whom he called Father. In prayer he listened, trusted, and shared everything with God—showing us that prayer is about closeness, honesty, and learning to trust God’s will.
Catechism: What is Prayer?
Prayer is the soul’s life-breath: an intimate, attentive dialogue with God, where the Holy Spirit is received, God speaks to the heart, and mission flows outward in response.
Catechism: the ninth Commandment
The ninth commandment links purity of heart, chastity, and freedom from envy or covetousness, urging inner healing, humility, and contentment rooted in trust in God’s providence.
